"According to Ticketek’s social media post, the unexplained outage was β€œa precautionary measure in response to system monitoring indicating a heightened threat level”.

So, lemme get this straight.

On the plus side, they couldn't rip anybody off for a day or so.

However, because of digital ticketing, some people in two countries struggled to get into events that they were ripped off to go see in the first place.

Great system they've got over there...

Day 2 (afternoon):

Two more charges today, and the police say they believe even more young men will come forward now.

And, of course, the Murdoch people are doing what they do when it's one of their own:

"Former chief of staff to Tony Abbott turned Sky News presenter Peta Credlin’s reaction an hour later was to support her longtime β€œfriend”. Credlin and Jones co-hosted a program on Sky News before he departed the station in 2021."

Would it be because, like gravity, late-stage capitalism is pretty hard to stop unless you put something very robust in the way?

My coffee cup would smash on the floor if I tried to put it down and the desk wasn't there.

If you don't put meaningful regulation on what they do, corporations will always keep doing what makes them the most money, no matter how bad it might be in the long term.

It's inherent in the system πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Day 2:

Ah, yes. The stories on the right explain, of course, why this formerly all-powerful radio personality hasn't been arrested before now, even though these allegations have been swirling around for years.

Glossary:

'Liberal' - The Liberal Party is the rough Australian equivalent of the Tory or Republican Parties.

'Silk' - King's Counsel or Senior Counsel: Barristers who make up the senior legal, judicial, and often the political classes.

Gotta admit that seeing a right-wing radio host who's caused so much hate and anger against women and immigrants finally get his comeuppance for something that's been an open secret for decades is a pretty good way to start the week. πŸ‘

'Elderly abuse'?!?!!??!??!

1. Mike's 58 and only a few years older than me, so I'm a tad insulted. πŸ˜‚
2. He knew precisely what he was doing.
3. I obviously voted for the winner, and I, equally obviously, think 27% of the newspaper readers who voted missed the point.

We're watching the Women's , and they just showed a clip of a player in the dugout realising that she was on camera in bare feet. She hides her feet and then makes a *gimme some money* gesture to the camera, and now Milly Illingworth is my favourite player who has ever been. πŸ˜‚ 🀣

I'm actually not a big fan of former Australian PM - now Ambassador to the USA - Kevin Rudd, but all this scrutiny over his T**** criticism is making him look pretty good.

The enemy of mine enemy etc.

Yeah... This is more a desperate plea from the author - a relatively moderate former cabinet colleague of the thuggish Opposition leader - than an honest take.

They are making the same mistake that 'reasonable' Republicans keep on making by misunderstanding what's happening here:

Their party has been taken over lock-stock-and-barrel, and they simply cannot see it.

It's built into traditional conservatism to think things will stay okay until they don't. See one N. Chamberlain for reference.

Just in case anyone is obtuse enough to be 'both-sides'-ing or treating this whole business as if it's even vaguely normal, here's T****'s nominee to lead the most powerful military in world history in all his neo-Christofascist glory.

Funny how it works.

Coupla cheap lamps and some red LED globes, and the room is more fun to be in.

"In jeopardy"?

I would've thought it was more that they've ticked off another qualification box for joining this gang. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

The Murdochrats here in Oz are running a campaign against our ambassador to the US (who also happens to be a former Labor Prime Minister) because he said some things about T**** before going into the role.

T****'s caddy, Dan Scavino, posted an hourglass GIF on one of his social media posts, too.

For now, at least, our PM is holding the line that "T**** doesn't choose our ambassador; Australia does," and that seems exactly right. Appeasement is bad.

Here's what he said, and I see no lies:

I love that the top story on the newspaper site is about an Uber driver with a water pistol.

It does strike me, though, that we see a dude waving a water pistol outside the NSW State Parliament as a really big deal, but a dud who fomented a violent insurrection against the US Capitol is about to be president again.

*shakes head in bewilderment*

Part of me loves that the Murdochs can't sell their cable network because it's pretty rubbish.

But the other part wants them out of it because they're holding rights to some good shows and sporting events that I'd like to watch but won't because I won't give them money for anything.

Wonders will never cease! The Labor government and the RW opposition actually agree on something!

Funny how they can agree to protect their cosy duopoly even though they disagree on every single other thing.

Yes, it's good to keep the billionaires out of it, but that's just an excuse to try to nobble the Independents and minor parties that threaten to make government accountable by stopping the major parties from having sufficient votes to form government in their own right.

The fix is in.

I, too, believe that the Socceroos (which is a silly name for a team) can win games as long as they swap out the whole team for the far more experienced, successful, and less well-paid women's team.

Otherwise, they're not good enough.
