Woke up before dawn to find the cat sitting by my head giving me a penetrating stare. Got up to let him out on the screened porch and when I opened the door heard a parliament of barred owls calling each other. Nearest one was in the front yard, others in neighboring trees.
The air was soft and humid and smelled earthy. One of those experiences I was just glad to witness.

@Koore I just read a follow-up post about it. No injuries were reported, but the whole area is closed indefinitely now for repairs. The picture attached to that post says it all -- lots of damage!

On Tuesday, July 23, at about 10:19 a.m., a localized hydrothermal explosion occurred near Sapphire Pool in Biscuit Basin, located just north of Old Faithful.
Biscuit Basin, including the parking lot and boardwalks, are temporarily closed for safety reasons. The Grand Loop Road remains open.
No injuries were reported and the extent of damage is unknown at this time. - National Park Service
