If you want an alternative that doesn't endanger your life and your entire planet, I suggest picking out a native low growing ground cover to fill the space and suppress weeds. Where I'm at in Shenandoah plants like chrysogonum virginianum or wild violets do the trick.

They don't stay in your yard. They poison your own water supply. And unless you use a hazmat suit and never touch your yard, they'll give you cancer by using them.
