One thing I would like to see happen with social security? Bi-annual COLA. We fall behind every year. A raise in July would really help us keep up with this constant inflation.
@Mara_McGuire
Yup. My premium keeps increasing and the deductible more than doubled last year.
I hardly ever buy groceries at full retail anymore. I use paper coupons, digital coupons, and always check the reduced meat section. If I don’t save at least $40 each time I shop I’m doing it wrong.
@DocLaing @Mara_McGuire The secret tax: Congratulations your home value increased. Which unless you're selling that year translates to tax hike homeowner's insurance hike.
@MidnightRider @Mara_McGuire
+ property taxes + sales taxes +++++++++
It never ends.
And all the while I keep getting these ‘cremation sale’ flyers.
FINALLY! A sale to die for!! 😜
@DocLaing @Mara_McGuire "Declare the pennies on your eyes" If they could make money off corpses: Hi folks, Thomas Magnum, now I know you're going to think excavating your parents for money seems grizzly but not to me. You swindle people out of their homes with a warm smile and you can do anything".
@MidnightRider @Mara_McGuire
My Mom did this too. Sad.
@DocLaing @Mara_McGuire I'm sorry Doc, I didn't mean any disrespect. My mom is going to lose wealth because of the way the rules work. Not me, whatever I might retain isn't going to be in my name, you need five years or you push it all across the table when they come to take you to adult prison.
@MidnightRider @Mara_McGuire
No disrespect detected bro.
@DocLaing It keeps ringing in my head that it's supposed to be our time to relax. Instead, it's an immense struggle. We seem to be disposable, once they're taken everything they can from us. Go figure.
@Mara_McGuire
It is. So much so that I take every opportunity to keep those dollars in my pocket.
@DocLaing So do I. Unfortunately the food price hikes this year mean I sometimes have to do without anyway. Still, all things considered, I would not go back to work for my ex-boss (and that's all that's available here.)
@DocLaing I didn't know the plate spinner on the Sullivan show was my future bill payment system. I had a sweet gig too; I wish I could have held up longer physically.
@MidnightRider
Lmao 🤣
I feel ya.
@DocLaing Yes. Anyone who disagrees should have to spend 5 years living on just over $800/month (and that's not counting Medicare hikes for no real reason.)
