@awrene oh, so do you ice your hands, and then try to use them for something to document the experience?
@awrene that's interesting, I've never heard of this.
@AmyNielsen06 Thanks, writers unite!
@singlemaltgirl so true. Time and effort.
@LnzyHou Thank you!
@singlemaltgirl thanks. It's a work in progress. I would like to have a large operation and sell them one day. But first I need to be able to produce more than 3 😁
My first harvest of mushrooms from my mushroom farm. Smaller and fewer than I wanted, my substrate needs work for sure, but not bad. They are edible.
@SarahAvery thanks for pointing me to this, George Saunders might be my new favorite person.
@damselfly59 to be honest, I'm not sure. Hence why it feels strange when it happens.
In life, you would never know I was a veteran, thats how I like it. I lay low, under the radar, avoid talking about it. Social media is the only place I feel comfortable enough to say anything, because I can think about the conversation and reply when I'm ready.
Short answer is, there is no answer, but think about this song when you do, and what it means. Know that they might have a piece of them missing.
Today is veterans day, so I suggest listening to this song; Luang Prabang by Dave Van Ronk. I feel like it captures the essence of what it feels like to be a combat vet (at least one like me) when someone thanks you for your service. Its a complicated feeling, because it's done with the best intentions, but it leaves a hollow feeling inside, remembering the ones who dont make it home, and the platitudes we are told to fight and die for.
@mrfumblethumbs yeah, totally. I'm thinking like 'Golden Girls' energy
@mrfumblethumbs I really like that idea. What would they talk about if they all went out for drinks instead of killing eachother.
@DevonEllington I feel like this isn't just writing advice, but a deeper philosophy of life in general.
@lizmonster thats true, they will find trouble on their own, you just have to follow along.
@WriterTaylor that sounds amazing. I'm sure that added a lot of depth to your story.
@mrfumblethumbs that's why I need to make sure none of them survive. I can't bear the rejection of not being invited.
@SarahAvery thanks, I'll have to check it out. I never liked pantser either. Its like "hey, I have a plan, my characters just aren't following the rules!" 😂
@TrueBloodNet I think it will work out, if not, thats what the delete key is for. 😆
Wouldn’t be the first time.
@jeffschanz_author I like that way of looking at it. I really feel like I'm dealing with a Marlon Brando / apocalypse now situation and I'm like "We'll fix it in editing" 😆
@ToolPackinMama Me too. Now half the joy of writing is finding out what happens next.
I have a Podcast with my wife where we talk about zombie books, movies and tv shows. I'm also writing a novel based in a zombie apocalypse.
