I'm not officially laid off yet, I've been told there is still a little work left for this season. But DAMN it feels good to wake up on a monday morning, put on my comfy jogging pants, and write in front of the fireplace while sipping hot coffee. Damn it feels good to be a gangster.
What genre do you write?
I struggle to define what I'm writing. It takes place in a zombie apocalypse, but I wouldn't say its about zombies. Its about people, relationships, and hardship. Its a road trip, a tragedy and a comedy. It just happens to have zombies as a hardship to endure. How to I pick a buzzword to describe a whole story that isn't really about the thing you would define it by?
When I write, its something takes over. Like a demon whispering in my ear, or a parasite burrowing into my brain and controlling my fingers. I dont know where the words come from, and I dont know how the story will end, I just wish whatever possessed me had better grammar and typing skills.

What are you writing today? Are you excited about your writing?

Do you have runaway characters?
I thought I had a plan for my novel, plotted out 15 story beats, whole 9 yards. Then I started writing it, and my characters started making their own choices as I helplessly watched, screaming "what are you doing?!?!"
Do I need a therapist? Or is this normal?
Something that bothers me; I often see writers use the word 'erm' when they mean 'uh' or 'umm'. Is this right? I've never said 'erm' in my life, why do I see it so much?
I write during the winter months; when I'm laid off from paving. During the summer, I think about what I have written, analyze my characters and my story, and visualize where it will go when I can write again. Its what keeps me going when sweat is pouring out of me in the hot sun standing on 400 degree blacktop wondering why the hell I do this for a living.
Whats your day job? What are your dreams?
I've posted a bit already, but I figured I would make an official introduction post.
I'm Dan, and I'm writing a novel based in a zombie apocalypse that explores humanity, politics, love, life and death through a dusty cracked lens speckled with drops of blood and smeared fingerprints. Its a work in process that I work on during the winter; my off season from my day job, driving dump trucks on a paving crew.
Looking to have convos with other writers and zombie fans!
I have a Podcast with my wife where we talk about zombie books, movies and tv shows. I'm also writing a novel based in a zombie apocalypse.
