Something that bothers me; I often see writers use the word 'erm' when they mean 'uh' or 'umm'. Is this right? I've never said 'erm' in my life, why do I see it so much?

@DanIsWriting i've noticed it in British contexts more than north American writing.

@holon42 yeah, that seems more appropriate. I found it confusing because I didn't think it was british writing, and it seems consistently used in much of what I have been reading.

@DanIsWriting "erm" bugs me too! Never said it, never heard it said.

@DanIsWriting I think it's a British thing. I see it in the subtitles on Great British Baking Show when the speaker says "um"
