I write during the winter months; when I'm laid off from paving. During the summer, I think about what I have written, analyze my characters and my story, and visualize where it will go when I can write again. Its what keeps me going when sweat is pouring out of me in the hot sun standing on 400 degree blacktop wondering why the hell I do this for a living.
Whats your day job? What are your dreams?
@LindaTeppler I understand. I've been broke my whole life, slave to the grind, felt like I had no way out. This job is the best paying one I've ever had and now I want out because its destroying my body and health, and it eats up all my time.
I dont know if I will ever make a living with my writing, but I want to have a mushroom farm. Thats the dream right now.
@DanIsWriting Yep. The dream for me is a hydroponic trailer I can sell to the neighborhood from.
@LindaTeppler that sounds like the dream.
@DanIsWriting Day job is technical writing.
Dreams: That's a good question.🤔
@P_D_Austin I get that. Dreams are hard. Having time for them is even harder. I think they're important though, for a fulfilling existence.
@DanIsWriting I work as a paper carrier, delivering for several routes, It may not seem like much, but there's a lot of movement and the bundles of papers can get exceedingly heavy. It's also every day. I'm hoping one day for my books and art to really take off so I can finally get the rest I need.
@LissaGromley Yeah, same. On paper, I just drive around all day in a truck, but its 14 hours a day, its not easy, and it takes its toll. I'm ready for winter, I can say that for sure.
@DanIsWriting I can imagine how hard it is to work in the summer months doing pavement. I live behind a paving company and often see them hard at work in the summer time.
@DanIsWriting I'm a technical writer and editor by day. The dream is to to finish this novel that I keep avoiding!
@CWTellsTales Same. It's hard to pour your heart into a story when there is so little time, and no promise of any reward other than your hard work.
@DanIsWriting I guess technically my day job is writing though I don't make enough for me to consider it a job lol
My dreams are to be able to make a comfortable living off of my writing. I don't need to be rich a famous, though I wouldn't object to that. I just want to make enough to ensure my bills are paid and I can support my reading and gaming addictions
@RiekaWrites solid priorities! 😆 I feel that.
@DanIsWriting I feel grateful that writing is my day job, but it doesn't pay well. Being on 100% disability, home is the only place I can work, so I'm making it count. I also do narration/recording/advertisement work and being super competitive, it also doesn't pay well, but it does pay enough. I get a burst in summer when I sell plants I grow in my greenhouse over winter.
