We should be respecting this!? 😡
"Female World Cup official flees Qatar to avoid sentence of 100 lashes and seven years in jail for 'extramarital sex' after reporting she was raped."
@CriticalCupcake This (and a whole host of other reasons) is why I won’t watch the World Cup this time around. Do I miss the games? Sure. But I won’t lend tacit support of the horrible regime.
@CriticalCupcake Wow. Just... Wow
@CriticalCupcake
Shame on FIFA and on the US teams that are participating. They should boycott.
@CriticalCupcake
When sports are used to legitimize an inhumane government, we should refrain from participation. No good can come from it.
@Jeber @CriticalCupcake I agree 💯.
@Jeber. I support the idea of your post, but then I wonder how many around the world might view the US government and whether or not our policies and actions are always humane. It's a tough one for me to wrap my head around. Not trying to equate the US to Qatar, but we have our issues too.
@CriticalCupcake This report is horrifying, as is a lot of the news about Qatar's treatment of women and our LGBT neighbors.
@Honor_Creation @CriticalCupcake
You're right. The U.S. is a massive hypocrite when it comes to human rights. At the same time, our presence and engagement mean something to other countries because of our influence financially. We should use that influence to improve the world and at the same time work on improving our country.
@Jeber. Absolutely agree.
@CriticalCupcake I am utterly ashamed my country is participating in the World Cup as by doing so it lends credence to Qatar as a civilized country and they are anything but as long as they treat women the way they do.
@NorthernInvader Same :((
It's even worse than that, her lawyer in Qatar recommended she should marry her rapist to avoid the charges. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
