In the dumbasses on Facebook category, we have a former co-worker of mine. He's leaving central Florida (good) on the way to Asheville (not good) to save the people the government isn't helping. He's bringing gas, water, a chainsaw, and has no place to stay. He's going to be consuming needed resources.
He's not stupid. He is, however, former military, former LEO, and a cybersecurity guy. He's convinced people are being overlooked.
His brain has broken. 😕
I sincerely hope so. He's a genuinely nice man and I know he's doing this from a caring place, but the disinformation... 🫤
Actually, given the amount of square miles of devastation, most of it with access blocked by trees and only accessible by foot due to mud/washed out roads, random volunteers with chainsaws are a lot of what's going on. He might hook up with one of the Christian volunteer groups, who will give him some direction for where he's most needed. He can sleep in his truck.
Maybe he'll go back to Florida if it gets hit hard enough by Milton and he can eat hot meals from aid groups, sleep in his truck, and use limited water and sewer facilities there.
Or maybe he'll go down some unstable road he's not familiar with and create a brand new rescue situation when it crumbles under his truck.
Hero complex, a week later - with a GoFundMe taking resources from on the ground groups.
Nope, not going to convince me this is a sound plan.
@Cosmichomicide
Hopefully he never makes it that far.
