This is a real #Elon post.
For those of you not in tech, this is cringeworthy, not even up to the standards of schlocky tech adjacent dramas where people say airgapped a lot and clone cellphones using ham radio parts found in the basement.
@Cosmichomicide Every engineer I worked with in 1997.
Possibly "engineer" is the operative word. 😉
This was one of my favorite Zip2 Myth Busters:
My favorite was the consultant who came in to pitch his solution but had based it on a serious lack of understanding of the underlying system. When I pointed that out, he informed me of all his credentials and all the exhaustive work he had done on the analysis and thank you very much.
He carried on and I pointed out another issue, he snapped at me and I rolled my eyes. Visibly. BIG eye roll.
He asked me to leave. The director pointed out I built the system.
I hate those guys.
"articulate one them in Paradise Lost to me and apologize"
Ah, the good old days when IT was full of former humanities and accounting grads who happened to be good at "the little" computers and rode the right wave.
That's me.
@Cosmichomicide Nope he was Uber engineer too but close to my age and a good manager. I actually ended up becoming pretty close with the gal who was young and felt threatened in the field I guess. Those were different times.
Big props to you for that. I remember going weeks on projects without ever seeing another woman in a technical role and it's unfortunately still a leaking pipeline no matter how many women they stuff into STEM programs.
I love Zoom and I love WFH. I'm a chronic eye roller with no tolerance for edgelords or buzzword bois. I live to turn off video and have a good eye roll. 🙄
@Cosmichomicide Hubs and I both in IT, me in quality/regulatory, project management. He still is a PM and definitely does same. I've been out for years.
@Cosmichomicide The worst one I had on my team was female. She'd change the code behind my back then gaslight me that I hadn't seen what I had. 🙄 My boss, who was a super cool dude and had hired me specifically because I could write a sentence, locked her out of the database until she could articulate one theme in Paradise Lost to me and apologize. It was a wild time.
