Told ya. They are running text through a large language model. No context, no checking standards of the time.

This isn't about plagiarism. And the idea of an AI startup to continually grind up academic papers.

Well, there had to be a money angle.

@Cosmichomicide If he was actually a legitimate threat to the higher ed ecosystem, I suspect he probably wouldn't be around for long.

Any time you've got billions of dollars flowing, it can motivate people to do some extremely shady shit.

I'd say if the PSE system as a whole felt threatened, someone with connections very well might take it on themselves to arrange for him to have an "accident" & wind up in the morgue.

Fuck around with an entrenched power structure, & you tend to find out.

We can only hope. But he and Rufo have already caused damage through their witch burnings and they work fast.

I predicted Kornbluth was next. When (intentional word choice) she resigns, it will be Columbia's turn. Minouche Shafik may be the last stop for them though - she's played ball on the big court at the IMF, LSE, and World Bank. She's handled her share of Ackmans and she was the only one to avoid the hearing trap (she's Muslim). I have some hope.

@Cosmichomicide Fingers crossed.

Even if that's not the case, there are serious connections between higher education (and research universities in particular) and the military-industrial complex.

If Ackman and his "tech bro" toadies start causing too much disruption in that space, they may well end up treading on some toes you *really* don't want to tread on.

Hard to say what exactly would happen after that, but I suspect he'd wind up "independently deciding" to do something else instead.
