Some of you are good at #whatisthisthing, so here’s my challenge. A brass fitting of some sort, on a carabiner that it can only be taken off of with difficulty. One side of the fitting is threaded, the other smooth and flared.
It came with something I ordered years ago but can’t remember what
Lockdown nut to assist in screwing down/unscrewing the carabiner to make sure it stays fastened but is easy to tighten or undo even with gloves on.
That's my guess.
@Tarnagh think it’s a butane torch tip. I should have put something for scale in the photo, this thing is tiny and definitely not for climbing
Is it possible to strike against something on the carabiner to make a spark?
I'm not sure why/how a butane torch tip would be useful but it might be some kind of fire starter?
@Tarnagh @Comanchegyrl @corlin I just figured out the brass piece screws apart, it makes it quite a bit easier to get off the carabiner. And it doesn’t fit my butane torch
@Anarchaeologist @Comanchegyrl @corlin
I've been looking and this is the closest I can find on the internet to what this seems to be.
I still don't know what it'd be for.
Dangit. Now *I'M* curious as to what that is. 😂
@Tarnagh @Anarchaeologist @corlin This sort of hardware is often used in plastic injection molding so I'd think of something you have/had that was plastic that it goes to.
