I didn’t expect to feel nervous about my upcoming phone call with the Legal Aid attorney, but here I am drinking my coffee and I can feel my stomach feeling uneasy and tears are starting.
I’m just exhausted. I’m tired of having to fight to not be taken advantage of. I’m tired of talking about the shit in my life to doctors, my therapist, now an attorney. I want a life where I can wake up in the morning and feel lightweight and calm.
I know I keep saying this and I’m so damn sorry. 😣
@see_the_sus on top of all of that is the literal stress of simply having to talk to all of these people. Just the act. It alone is exhausting.
You’re worth the effort your exerting. I hope things improve with this call.
@see_the_sus ffs I’m really sorry to hear that. A case of he wasn’t prepared or it’s very complex?
@see_the_sus holy shit you are getting fully jacked there, that’s really unfair.
They could send a letter but they’re probably exploring the “renters benefits.”
I’m sure in that fee the landlady will try claim labor as part of the “costs” if anyone comes in to replace them. They may also attempt to claim “amenities” options as included in the fees. Anything like a community pool or fitness or laundry areas.
Contracts work both ways. If you’ve got it in order she’s going to be screwed.
Oh, no labor involved at all! Well, unless you consider the person who programs into the system of "order xxx filters & have delivered to her home" as labor. I'm required, in the lease, to install them myself! And I'm supposed to take a photo of said filters once installed and send the photo as proof that I have done this.
I've got a W/D in my apartment. No pool or community center. I'm one of just 4 units in this building but I think they own the 4-unit place right next door and whatever other places around town and in Texas, as that's where the corp office is located.
I wanted to avoid the large corp complexes because of shit like this and past experiences. Oh well. I tried my best to find a reputable company to rent from.
@see_the_sus oh shit. Yeah… I’m so sorry. Dealing with any company based in Texas w out of state interests… that’s uphill both ways.
Yeah. I didn't realize they were an out-of-state company when I signed the lease as all the docs list their office here in ABQ. It wasn't until I had to call the ER Maintenance line back in November, due to a leak at my wall-sharing neighbor's apartment. I though the outside leak was coming from both of our roofs but turned out to be theirs.
I found out that the 24hr ER line is staffed in TX & I then did more research and learned that the company is in TX.
@see_the_sus Yeah they actually probably tried to not disclose that information during leases as it’s a serious detractor for assurances like timely maintenance or reporting issues. I’m sorry they’re being jack asses like that.
@Coffee_and_Salt
Doesn't seem complex to me at all. The lease clearly states that they will provide the filters every 60 days and that I am to pay $40.95. The only complex part is just how much the filters are actually costing because the fee I'm paying encompasses a few other IMO bizarre "renters benefits." In Dec my landlady said she'd find out what the filters cost and that I would receive a credit.
Seems like they could send a letter demanding they issue me a credit within 30 days. 🤷
