IMHO we can expect the Great Social Media Chase to continue.
Since a critical mass of people determined that Twitter was not THe Place, we have seen:

X --> Spoutible (pretty much over)
X --> Post.news - GONE
X --> Threads - stalled now people realize that Threads has no useful moderation, plus SPAM
X --> BlueSky - This Month's Thing
X --> Mastodon - trickle
X --> Discord - trickle
X --> CoSo - trickle

@gshevlin I'm not sure how moderation on a profitable super-sized social media site would work. Control over your own feed and the ability to block help, but the sheer volume of users may be an inherent vulnerability to trolls, bots and grifters.

@Coctaanatis That is the key problem. Moderation does not scale. In fact it reverse scales.
If you have 2x the number of users, you will have more than 2x the number of interactions.
Worst case the number of interactions may escalate as closer to the square of the number of users.
Stopping 10 assholes from pissing on your living room furniture is impossible. You have to stop them coming in the door.
