@janallmac glad I didn’t make that mistakes with my sons.
@janallmac
My boys are men at this point, with their own kids. This isn’t even a little part of them.
Women who aren’t even in touch with their own beliefs, can’t be trusted to raise children who will then be decent people.
@CinnamonGirlE
Do you remember being told you should hit them? I was told that. I didn't listen.
@janallmac
My mom and dad were silent generation parents. They spanked me at times. But mostly the expectations were laid out in front of me with consequences also laid out.
I raised my kids much the same, but probably with more discussion. My opinion as a child, was not revered, lol.
@CinnamonGirlE
Mine too, I was spanked some, while being overall loved, but my mother tells stories about her parents whipping her and her cousins with a stick frequently and regularly, and being just absolutely terrified. 😟 Like terrorized of death even, people would pretend they were going to literally kill them just to scare them into obedience.
And now people talk about that like it was the good old days?
I don't get it.
@janallmac I don’t either. But it’s definitely what they want.
@CinnamonGirlE
I do remember being told when my boys were little and misbehaving, that I should hit them.
Their every mistake was a reflection on me and a failing of my parenting, rather than being a natural thing that little kids do; little kids who were extremely, extremely, active and still learning social skills.
Anyway. This sort of thing is how we get what we've got.
@janallmac it is where we live now. And I don't know how to make it different.
@CinnamonGirlE
God, I've tried not to. They're great young men, IMO.
I did have an explicit little chat with them about "Your body, my choice." and how that is not even a little bit OK.
