Well, it’s official. I’m a curmudgeon. We rarely go out to dinner, but I was tired of cooking and wanted a break so we went to a local casual restaurant we used to frequent. The food was too salty, the service too lackadaisical. There were two tables of families with small kids; at one, the kids were flat out shrieking, unchecked by the parents. It was so distressing that the father at the next table had to console HIS kids. Other diners asked to be reseated. Fun. Back to the kitchen for me.

Hey, I love kids. But when I go out to eat, I don't want tables of them screaming loudly beside me.

There's nothing like Going Out to cure me of the desire to Go Out.

"Yes, I will have this delicious steak dinner To Go, because I'd rather eat it lukewarm at home than deal with screaming children and petri dish people at one of your tables."
