@CinnamonGirlE My first thought was Betsy DeVos. Why do Republicans want to destroy education
@JusDucky @CinnamonGirlE
It has a lot to do with fundamentalist Christians -- or that specific brand of republican -- it ties in with them not wanting their children taught evolution.
In the bible belt, there are people who 100% believe that men have one fewer rib than women, that humans walked the earth with dinosaurs, and the story of Noah and the flood was literal and factual. They believe this.
And public education teaches differently.
Plus, it costs money too and is desegregated.
In my experience, they can sometimes be decent, family-oriented types of people, but badly misguided. They're terribly, terribly indoctrinated. And...They've gleefully gotten in bed with billionaires who would love to bring back child labor and who are motivated mainly by profit and greed.
@JusDucky @CinnamonGirlE
And then throw in the fact that public school might mean your child meets people of other races or religions, learn about evolution, and potentially do something other than get married and have children, and it just terrifies them. It's very sad, and very, very dangerous.
@JusDucky @CinnamonGirlE
And then... on top of allllll that...
We have colleges engaging in questionable practices and earning their bad reputations, to put it mildly, so people look askew at that and see it as proof that "education is bad!"
AND there is a huge, huge financial incentive to privatize education, so I guarandamntee you some people know this and want to benefit.
And it is just a gigantic clusterfuck.
@Museek @janallmac @JusDucky
Privatization of education will destroy the country. And sadly, that’s exactly what they want.
@Museek @janallmac @JusDucky
I hope we are able to reverse things and keep democracy. It will always be a battle.
@CinnamonGirlE @Museek @janallmac Its true. That is what they want. They also do not want most people to live past retirement age. If you are not in the workforce, no longer paying income tax and don't vote for them, you are not contributing so....limits on your healthcare, prescription drugs unaffordable, maybe even access to food or affordable housing is out of reach ,
@CinnamonGirlE @Museek @janallmac
I know this to be true because I am living this. I have worked my whole life and most of my savings were gone, misused by my ex and later a contentious custody fight. Then I left my job and took care of my dad and my disabled brother. My dad passed in 2020 at the start of COVID and here we are, Our savings are quickly being depleted and we both have health issues in our 70s.
@CinnamonGirlE @janallmac @JusDucky this.. i had it on the tip of my tongue but couldn't remember who said it and didn't want to misquote
