We finally made it home after driving 1985 miles because of the Southwest debacle. We are fortunate in that we had the financial means to rent a car, get hotel rooms, pay for gas, pay for food, outside of what we thought we’d spend on vacation. It sucked royally but, we’re home, we’re safe and I hope everyone that is displaced gets back to where they need to be soon. FUCK that sucked.

You are, indeed fortunate, in spite of how deeply that sucked.
I don't mean to take anything away from your ordeal, but I found myself thinking about how lucky all of us are, that no one is dropping mortars/artillery shells, bombs, whatever, on our homes and roads. We remain lucky, even in the face of this latest disaster.

I can't imagine! Southwest needs to reimburse every single person who has been displaced...reimbursed every single penny! Then compensated for the hardship, lost days at work, etc.
