Use an extension when performing internet searches. Most internet browsers allow a user to add extensions, including extensions that block advertisements. These ad blockers can be turned on and off within a browser to permit advertisements on certain websites while blocking advertisements on others.

I use the Ghostery extension for this, and it HAS absolutely cut down in the number of ads inflicted on me, as well as tracking cookies.

Sometimes interferes with 3d party widgets on a specific site or page, so have to whitelist it to log in or whatever, but that's also easily accomplished.
