So I have this friend that I was so close with, like daily for years it was one of those don't see one without the other, she got married bought a house,her kid got older and her job from pizza tosser to County Social worker so I get it, quality replaces quantity. Anyhow, she keeps doing his thing of telling me she wants to take me out for Thai at "our groups" favorite place etc and then flaking, even when I found out about lung cancer, why do people do this?
@LnzyHou Yeah, there is nothing worse than someone not being able to just not make plans they don't intend to keep. Especially when they are in recovery!! I get that life changes, she's in the late 30's kid playing football, working for promotions, climbing up that social/financial status ladder mode and I'm not and never was that lol!
I'm sorry it seems she's taking your friendship for granted.
If you really want to stay friends with her, here's what I'd do. I'd say "Oh, I know how crazy your life is these days. Tell you what - instead of making plans you can't keep, why don't you call me when you're free and if I'm free then, too, we can get together and have some fun"
Then Iet it go and get on with life. She'll call or she won't. And you can decide whether to put more effort into it.
@LnzyHou @BrazenlyLiberal Absolutely! I kind of checked out a few times ago but when I had cancer surgery she was one of a few people that was all about saying they were going to whatever I needed, bring me meals/clean my house/take the dog for long walks etc! Not a one of them followed through, "luckily" for me, my previous cancer gave me pretty clear view of how people get so weird &can't handle it so I had no real expectation!

I too have recovered from cancer.
Oh no. I'd be done with her after that. I'd be done with anyone who did that.
I realize a lot of people are afraid of being around cancer or even afraid they'll catch it. But friends show up when you need them, even if they're a little nervous about it.
