Al opened a three-act show; Richie Havens was second, and Renaissance was headlining, in Denver, in the 80s.
He was "new" then, and he blazed in concert, so dynamically, our ears were still burning when Richie came out. As iconic as Havens is, him being middle act didn't jibe with Al, then Renaissance.
