My ranting aside, there is so much talk about mental health, and from my experiences, there are levels.

I know people suffer from depression, anxiety, stress, and things that cause them suffering.

But then there are true Shutter Island certifiably insane people.

I lived with that for 22 years, and now I am all fucked up because of it, as a caregiver.

Medication compliance is the #1 problem with those with SMIs

@robertjmolnar I hope you have some support from friends, family, professionals. It sounds like it's been very chaotic & being a caregiver is so difficult.

@BirdsAreCool that has been the #1 problem.

22 years. Had the support of professionals, my family, and to some degree her family. Her family turned on me.

Season 3-Family Denial and Blame

@robertjmolnar it's just so much easier to blame the spouse than admit a family member is mentally ill. I worked in mental health with adolescents. But personally, my sister has struggled with SMI for many decades.
And yes, her biggest problems occur when she won't take her meds.

@BirdsAreCool had some semblance of her family support when her first diagnosis came in 2006. support to encourage her treatment and such.....went through 3 significant episodes since then....all family supported, stabilized.

then, out of nowhere, 2018, "she doesn't have a problem, he is the problem"

wtf?

in the years since, that went out the window as she has been in out of jail and nutty as a fruitcake off her meds.

@robertjmolnar You must put yourself first. If two of you are drowning, save yourself.
Then you may be able to assist her, if you choose.
I hope things become easier for you. Keep getting support for yourself.
