The garden is starting to produce. This was the first lonely ripe thing, and the corn is already knee high. I hope my diluted vinegar spray will keep the bugs from eating the leafy things
@PaganMother
Thanks, I'll be going back home next week where there is a greenhouse in the family and I'll see if I can find any of those
@Beerdini Companion planting is always great for protecting produce safely, just so much easier than using the chemical methods industrial farms use.
@Beerdini On the plus side, it's a pollinator attractant, so there's a good side to switching away from sprays, even the safe ones.
@PaganMother
This is the first year I'm trying a real garden here and I've only added some vegetable friendly fertilizer at the base of some of the plants and some manure that I still had in a bag that I picked up over the years. Its doing fantastic right now aside from the bugs, which I didn't know what to expect so I'll have a better idea for future years
@Beerdini Hey that's great! Yeah the bugs will always be something of a problem, certain ones are okay to keep around since they drive away sickness and disease from some plants.
@PaganMother
And the spray that I put on was a "homemade" solution, not commercial chemical. Also tested on a single leaf of each type of plant that has been getting eaten up.
So far they've been all over the broccoli, cauliflower and starting on the beans
@Beerdini If you can get a hold of some started plants, there are some herbs that can help prevent bugs from eating up everything in your garden.
Lemongrass, Mint, Basil, Lavender, Chives and Rosemary.
