@nealfig The movie the Graduate helped the music catch on, a lot. I think that was the reason for the overdubbing etc.My Sophomore yr or so my sister’s fiancée was in Med school and my sister and I were driving my dad crazy. The theater in our neighborhood had the Graduate for probably the whole year. Daddy sent us to the movies a lot. We used to recite the dialog, probably to the annoyance of everyone else.
@nealfig I know. As you might guess from my post, I lived thru this. I even told a story about it. It was my OPINION based on when, at that point in time, the music actually really started getting airplay and gained popularity. So my experience of what happened. Not something I read somewhere.
@Bear7962 Ah, I see. I had forgotten that "Sound of Silence" was in the soundtrack. No wonder there was an upsurge in airplay of their music because of the movie, which I think I saw only once, years ago. I only remembered "Mrs. Robinson" from the movie. Also, I was not in North America; the charts may have been different where I was. Thanks for the story.
@nealfig Thank you for sharing what brought back old and pleasant memories. I was the right age to even catch them singing in NY. Keep on sharing, I will look forward to it!
@Bear7962 The Graduate was released in 1967, 2 years after the electric single was released.
