Barker sees Hellraiser as more of a love story than a horror movie. He has said that Julia’s motivation for bringing men back to her house and killing them is done out of a deep devotion to Frank: “She’s not committing murder in the way that Jason… commits murder—just for the sake of blood-letting —she’s doing it for love. So there is a sympathetic quality about her, enhanced hugely… by the fact that Clare Higgins does it so well.”
