I am saddened today to hear of the death of Akebono (Chadwick Rowan), the first non-Japanese to reach #Sumo's highest rank of Yokozuna, and still to this day the only American to reach it (4 Mongolians have done it since).
I met him once. No one will ever confuse me with a small person and I was dwarfed by the man. He was just coming out of a resturaunt as I was going in, and I was honestly startled.
He just danced around me. In his prime he was astonishing.
@LowEndMuse
Not to be picky or anything, but why are all of the AMERICAN flags behind the podium in real need of ironing? You know, like they were just unpacked for the first time in a few years?
disclosure: I've seen James McCartney perform live at a little club in San Francisco (Neck of the Woods). I saw Sean Ono Lennon perform once by accident - he was sitting in with The Flaming Lips.
I think the song by James and Sean is perfectly fine. It's a LOT more James than Sean. He doesn't have his father's voice, but who does?
BUT! That OUT-OF-TUNE G String on the guitar in the intro really takes me out of the song for a moment. Anyone can hear it, so I think it was on purpose
@sentientdessert Apparently no one on set knew what he was going to do and because mostly Yankovic can't see him all he had in front of him was crew. The crew was laughing and doubled over so much that at times our dear Wierd Al thought he wasn't going to make it through the take.
@NorthernInvader The song's okay but goddamn that one guitar string that's out of tune in the first 8 bars is making me crazy.
Chart Position!!!!!
Yeah, it's arbitrary and will change before too long, but I'm still gonna take it.
Link to the song in the first reply.
@DyDave Back in the 80's I was in a band where I played one of those things (they wanted to sound like KajaGooGoo) but the guitar part had to switch to a syncopated line in a hurry, so I always just dropped the damned thing and grabbed a pick taped to my mic stand..
Still have it. Still works.
As promised, here is a link to the blog version of Radio Free California Episode 2416.
Includes not just the playlist, but also radio station programming notes about the various shows we will run this week, talk about the new English Teacher album, 10 at 10, and the extra track you can't get from the Spotify playlist.
And a few cheap shots at news of the day, and a video I liked.

And here it is my friends, Radio Free California Episode 2416 (at least the playlist version). Quite the list of new music this week, including English Teacher, Avi Kaplan, Bridget Kearney, Mark Knopfler, Airbag, Sikane, Nia ARchive, Metz, Bad Bad Hats, Orville Peck with Willie Nelson and much more. Enjoy!
As per usual, my blog version will be up later today.
That little boy in the CD art (remember when we bought stuff and it came with art?) steps into his father's shoes.

I admit that when I first saw this my reaction was "Russia better zip up their damn pants then."
@elbutterfield
