I'm thinking about adding a slot to my radio station once a week where I just play a full album. The idea comes to me because the new Paul Simon album, "7 Psalms" is now out and it's been released in the format of a single 34 minute song.

Nothing against long songs - I play quite a few - but if Simon isn't going to break it apart into single songs or movements then I don't want to either. But I'd like to play it on the air at least once.

So maybe a single show?

Todd Rundgren has re-recorded and re-released his 80's hit "Bang the Drum" in a new version, using the Harpejji (which seems to be the latest trend), but he turns the solo section over to bassist extraordinaire Tony Levin, and that is hella fun.

For those of you who listen to Radio Free California either on the website (link below) or on the App please note that on 5/17/23 we will be playing just the new music added this week to the station at 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm and 6pm Pacific Standard Time.

Tune in to hear me badly mangle the pronunciation of Serge Tiagnyriadno's name multiple times before giving up! ^_^

Sheryl Crow does not belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

She just doesn't.

Talented? Yes. Good singer and performer? Yes.

Accomplished everything by exploiting the talents of others? Also yes.

There aren't enough women in the Hall, and that's a real problem. But Sheryl Crow doesn't belong.

Anyone want to test-drive a new Internet Radio Station? It's only a website and music so far - it's official launch will be in June and I'm fine-tuning it. There will be an app too.

Goddamnit.

.

One of the greatest songwriters of all time, he was actively working and touring well into his 80's. Bob Dylan, in his own heyday, called him the greatest songwriter he had ever met.

On this song alone there is SO MUCH going on, and not just the beautiful lyrics. The guitar work on this song is incredible.

If anyone deserves the title of , it's this man.

Yes, I too am participating in the .

I will be recording every day for at least the next 4 weeks. My apologies if I am even less responsive than usual.

I am also preparing to launch my internet radio station, probably in June. I'll keep you posted.

I'ma gonna start a radio station that only plays music released within the previous 24 months.

I'm sick and tired of there not being new music on the radio where I live.

Of all the freakin' songs to come on the radio as I'm driving home, but all of a sudden there's "Material Girl" by Madonna...

Sometime, when you have a few minutes, listen to the guitar part in the chorus. It's much, much, MUCH weirder than you remember.

Being a recording artist sometimes means that you can spend a day working on brilliant guitar parts and and when mixing the whole song come to the realization that the song works better without them.

So long Harry Belafonte.

My Aunt and my Mother were the President and Vice-President respectively of the Harry Belafonte fan club. His music rang through our home when I was a child.

I learned how to be a good concert goer thanks to a story about this man that involved my mom. It's too long a story to share easily here, but I've never forgotten it.

An amazing voice, talent, activist, and human being. Rest in Power.
