Ladies, Gentlemen, and all others on the spectrum, despite the holiday (which I completely forgot about) here is Radio Free California Episode 2308!

New music from Screaming Females (with a great new album), PONY, Nickel Creek, P!nk, AJ & Aly, Shounen Knife, @, Joe Louis Walker, and so much more, plus even I show up at the end! Enjoy!

Here it is my friends, Radio Free California Episode 2307. New music this week from (gasp!) Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins, Trev Lukather, a great remake by Voiceplay, new music from Lies (formerly of American Football), Kelela, Paramore, Hiromi, Black Belt Eagle Scout and much more. Enjoy!

I am a big fan of the band American Football. Two members of that band, cousins, have teamed up and formed the band LIES.

I learned of this song today. BTW, the video is 100% practical effects. They show you how they did it in the last shot.

Aw man, this is a loss. RIP Burt Bacharach.

One of the greatest songwriters to have ever lived.

I love it when a song never resolves down to the root chord. I just wrote one of those.

One of my favorite bands from my Childhood days in Canada (Mid 1970's) was the band Max Webster. Their lead guitarist Kim Mitchell is a fixture in Canadian music and radio to this day.

So I was shocked to learn that he released an album in 2020 that I hadn't heard. A few songs in is this gem, which is just amazing.

Enjoy.

As promised, here is a link to my blog for this week's Radio Free California Episode 2306, with thoughts about Turkey and Syria, plus many a cheap shot and NSFW insult thrown at the actors of the day.

Enjoy!

And here it is my friends, Radio Free California Episode 2306!

A shorter week for new music but a solid one just the same, featuring Peter Gabriel, The Winery Dogs, Kat Robichaud, Koshi Inaba, Theo Katzman, a great remake from Powerwolf, and a monster prog rock song from Canada's Crown Lands, plus much more! Enjoy!

As anyone will tell you, I'm a firm believer in worker's rights - especially teachers and nurses. So when a radio show starts out with the following I'm very proud that they included me in the show,

"Seems the Tory government can’t find the money to pay teachers and nurses a decent and proper wage. Maybe it would help if their ministers didn’t try to dodge their taxes."

Live earlier today on Manchester Radio, and now streaming at the link below.

Working on a shorter Radio Free California for tomorrow. About 80 minutes even including the 19 minute colossus from Canada's Crown Lands.

A lot of the indie that's out this week all sounds the same to me and that just makes me crazy. None of that makes the list.

I'll have it out tomorrow!

I only ever really get one complaint about my latest single - that it goes on for too long.

The song is as long as the song is. It has a structure. I didn't write it for motherfucking Tik-Tok.

Boy, some people would have hated The Stone Roses.

Never be afraid to sweat.

Here it is my friends, Radio Free California Episode 2305!

Queue up the end of January with lots of new music! This weeks features Nickel Creek, Maaya Sakamoto, Kiffie, Ergo, Bria (the comma is part of the name), Kimbra, King Tuff, a wild remix of an old Yes song, and much more. Enjoy!

In my opinion this is one of the better lists of new music I've put together.

My friends, tomorrow's Radio Free California is one of the better ones I've done in the 8 years+ that I've been doing these (I'm in my 4th year doing it on Spotify - I used to do a Youtube channel, and before that a blog - but I kept running into copyright blockers).

You're going to enjoy it.

36 years ago I wrote this, setting a well known poem to music. It would be a VERY long time before I ever performed it or recorded it. My heart was just to heavy to get the words out.

This demo video got Scandal their record deal. However, they were missing a guitarist at that moment, so one of their friends did them a solid - you can see him in the purple shirt hamming it up on guitar, faking the part. That man would be signed a couple of years later himself.

Jon Bon Jovi.

My BMI Royalties Statement has multiple pages of detail, and now that I've done the math I can tell you that (for me) Radio pays 1,150 TIMES better than Spotify.

We songwriters live and die on Radio. If you like a band you've only heard on Streaming services, call your local radio station and make some requests.
