My personal theory about why some US folks are just meh about the #Olympics is that US network coverage universally shows only Team USA's inexorable march to dominant victory over hapless opponents.

The vast majority of other countries are there to compete, to have a good time, to show sportsmanship, to be good ambassadors for their nations and their cultures.

I feel that if we saw more of *that* and a smidge less "U-S-A! U-S-A!" cowbell, hearts and minds might be changed a little.

It was insidious but effective (though in the end, it didn't stop Harris from being elected Vice President).

These things can be expected to re-appear in this campaign. They won't be countered very effectively simply by an appeal to facts; one has to root up the presuppositions and confront people with them. Ask them why they make issues out of Harris doing quite normal legal and political actions that were never issues until they were done by a woman.
