You probably noticed that funky knife in the photos of the Yoshikawa Case above. If you saw it out of context, you'd probably not know what it was: The angle in the handle is a function of the slab form factor of European/Japanese butter. The little holes are to extrude separate noodles of butter, which (the Japanese find) are easier to spread.
@corlin Fascinating article. It is interesting how culture influences the (in the US) “mundane” butter knife. And, yes, now I want one. Who doesn’t want “Noodles” of butter!?
