When we open up, we hope that we're accepted.
Each toot is a chance to validate our views, even if that means invalidating another's view.

I'm sorry, I don't want to tell people what to do (other than use a password manager), but I can't keep quiet.
Tattling on POTUS, or even worse, those tangentially associated to him just pours more fuel into the outrage machine. Telling us what we already know does as well.

And when you *do* come across something new, check your facts. Is it real? Is there another side to the story that you were unaware of? Disinformation and half truths are in no short supply these days. Putin's trolls are playing both sides, and if you don't see that, you are putting blinders on to keep your views "pure." If you only take in opinion pieces that support your side, it does you a disservice. You can't even argue against an opposing view since you don't understand it.

That being said, Wrong is Wrong. But sometimes right is also wrong: depending on reasons, methods, or results.

In this vein, I've already unfollowed a few accounts and muted a few more. I'm tired, grumpy, and turning back into the curmudgeon I was when I first came to CoSo. I didn't like myself back then, and I don't like myself now. I want to better myself, humanity, my friends and my country (in that order). Anybody who pushes me away from those goals will get muted until I can regain the strength to properly react to them. (No, this is not the proper way, I just can't deal right now.)

fin.

I'm muting this thread now, don't bother responding or @'ing me. (I don't feel like dealing with the inevitable "good to hear", "but I just...", "have you considered...", "you do you", or single emoji responses right now.)

When J pulled the Mastodon changes into the CoSo fork, it added word-based filters at the expense of the ability to use regex filters (they are *very* flexible).

My zen was broken.

Most people here know I'm no fan of Trump or the current state of the world, but constantly bitching about it without giving a solution that we average people can take action on is just meaningless huffing and puffing.

@0x56 Have you ever heard of Braver Angels? They're an interesting bipartisan organization that works toward bringing people together (or as they call it, "bridging the divide"). If you can get past the name, you might appreciate some of their work. They offer depolarizing workshops, fair and civil national debates, etc

@Amd - I haven't... thanks. I'll google them when I get a chance.
