When I joined CoSo back in November, the first thing that struck me was the sense of community.

It was like walking into a coffee shop full of good friends, the camaraderie was obvious.

To my amazement, I was welcomed right in. Before I knew it, someone offered me a seat at the table, asked if I'd tried the muffins, and commented on the book I was reading.

I share more of myself here than anywhere else, and I love what you share with me.

Folks may notice that my @ handle, p3R1n01D, is "leetspeak" for "paranoid."

I'm a strong advocate of digital security and privacy. For more than a decade, I was known as Paranoid Programmer on other platforms.

With a name like that, you know I'm picky when it comes to my personal social media platform.

I've been here two months, went pro a month ago.

Worth every penny!

I love the people I've met and the culture! Most importantly, I enjoy knowing it's run with integrity!

I'm a political activist. I was first inspired to activism a decade ago by the atrocities in Syria. Then my own country got hit in 2016. 🇺🇸

Many old-timers here say this is a quieter, mellower place. I intend to honor their traditions.

I have my fun side too! I love dogs, squirrels, and all critters. I have eclectic tastes in music, from Bach to The Cramps to Motown. I'm a nice guy. 😊

Sometimes people use "respect" to mean "treating someone like a person" and sometimes to mean "treating someone like an authority."

And sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say, "If you don't respect me, I won't respect you" and they mean, "If you don't treat me like an authority, I won't treat you like a person."

And they think they're being fair but they aren't, and it's not ok.

America's favorite drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, is closed indefinitely throughout North Carolina due to damage from Tropical Storm Helene.

The National Park Service announced on Sept. 29 that the route was closed from milepost 217 to milepost 469, from the Virginia and North Carolina state line down to U.S. 441 in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
