@LnzyHou @SpaceSlothForever Maybe I'm just old but I don't get the electronic hitting on women thing. Why, there's no way to meet L even if she lived nearby, no way to tell where she lives unless she posts it. There's no way to tell she's female, only that she has a photo of a female.
Yet I know it happens. 😥 Once in VR a guy approached me and suggested we go together to hit on a group of girls. Lord! We were cartoon avatars, as were they. I left that virtual world.
@LnzyHou @SpaceSlothForever Yuck!
An option to disallow DM seems like a good new feature.
On Facebook I often have women request to connect with me. Young. Could be my granddaughter. No clue how we might know each other. No posts on her timeline but selfies in various revealing costumes. But she's so taken with my witty and wise sayings that she wants to get close to me. She has a thing for old codgers. Why I'm flattered!
Ignore enough of them and the Algorithm finally sends fewer.
@LnzyHou @walterbays @SpaceSlothForever You could always go with a neutral name and avatar. I guess it's too late for that, and context clues from posts would soon make it clear your life experiences. I don't really know what the solution is, but I was surprised to find that you think of DM's like walking in somebody's door. I always thought of them as a one-to-one phone call vs conference call. I guess I had better rethink that.

Just my opinion. Many people feel differently.
@LnzyHou @elbutterfield @SpaceSlothForever You're surely not the only one. Knowing that this view exists we can avoid accidentally offending people. Your solution seems simple and effective. Just ask: may I DM you?
@walterbays @elbutterfield @SpaceSlothForever
Works for me.
@elbutterfield @LnzyHou @SpaceSlothForever If she changed her photo to a man, perhaps the face of Lindsey Graham, new users flooding in from Twitter, Bluesky, Threads, as they sink, would not realize she was female.
Or a robot photo giving neither gender clue. In fact, given recent AI progress, we can't be certain that she's human, nor you, nor I.
@elbutterfield @LnzyHou @walterbays @SpaceSlothForever I had never thought of DMs in this way, I just saw it as an "off thread" non-public chat - but I can see your point of view and how others are abusing it. Not sure I've even sent a single DM on Coso, but will know to ask first!
@LnzyHou @walterbays @SpaceSlothForever I've only had that happen once. I think it's because my avatars have been skulls, cartoon spiders, and ghostface me. I did have someone ask me directly on my feed for a pic once, I sent them this. I guess I'm not sexy? Lol.

Shortly before I found CoSo, I joined Tribel. Within 2 weeks, I had 400+ male followers. 90% jumped directly into my DM “hey baby”.
I #deactivated by week 3.
Each time a guy joins CoSo & follows only women, I know what’s coming next. I block instantly. Usually J follows within 24 hrs—splatted.
Wish I could lock my DM doors
