This is EARTH SHATTERING news for the #musicproduction world. All of my fellow composers and arrangers out there: you need to see this.

^ I started using Finale way back on version 3.0. I switched to Sibelius after finding it much easier to use, and I was there from v. 5 to 7, until Avid (owners of Pro Tools) bought the company and sacked the original UK development team.
That team was hired by Steinberg where they began work a clean-sheet competitor. That work became Dorico. I immediately jumped over to that app upon its first release and have been there ever since.
@voltronic Got many happy memories of Finale….
@Siren_six
My memories of Finale were mostly of frustration, specifically writing piano music with multiple voices per staff. That's one of the reasons I jumped ship to Sibelius, and Dorico handles this better still.
@voltronic Yeah as a student I only had access to Finale so it’s tied to that time for me. Never got to try Sibelius or Dorico.
@Siren_six
If you still use these kinds of apps, you should check out the free Dorico SE. It's amazing what even that version can do.
@voltronic Thank you got the suggestion, I’ll take a look. I’ve actually been looking to get back into composing 👍
^ RUMINT from a band director colleague is that Sibelius may also be on its way out. If that were to happen, we would have a Highlander situation in the professional score writing app world.
