I texted my son-in-law…asked “what is this?”

Off the top of his head, he didn’t know, but guessed a French impressionist “like Debussy or Ravel.”

Found out it depicts the third movement of Gaspard de la nuit, a 1908 piano composition by French composer Maurice Ravel.

He was certainly in the ballpark!

Pianist here. Depending on who you ask, either the first or third movement of Gaspard represent the most difficult piano music ever written. I consider the opening of the first movement, Ondine, absolutely terrifying.
