@voltronic also Vivaldi is extremely customizable, presenting a wide range of settings and built-in features designed to put the user in control.
Vivaldi has a feature to block trackers from tracking you.
Real privacy at the core
unplugged google
@ecksmc
You may have missed my reply to J about Vivaldi. I wouldn't want to use it based on results here, where it is one of the worst tested browsers for tracking protection.
yah...been usin Mullvad Browser socks5 proxied thru their VPN and using their DoH servers...it feels pretty private...I haven't run across much of anything that doesn't work (one site thought I was comin from Iran and didn't like that)...I only use it for non logged in browsings like searching for random things and clicking on the results...
I actually replied with all this to ecks previously...so this is a bit of a remix...
@opie @voltronic i started using mullvad VPN also the other day
Mullvad browser is not available on ChromeOS even via android side
most browsers need to be installed via android play store on ChromeOS so basically you are getting mobile version of the browsers - only one i do use is firefox focus on ChromeOS - i have, and do, test others but they really don't cut the mustard
need to enable the linux dev environment to get most desktop browsers installed
@voltronic good to know
i use chrome cause it's easy to push articles/web pages from my android to my ChromeOS with one tap - i like my google stuff > chromecast - photos and drive storage - also was one of the 1st to test G+ when it changed from google buzz(was a beta tester for that)
prefer firefox focus as my default browser on android it doesn't store any data/cookies once you close it and it's fast and good for opening URLs via social media sites
have brave installed on android
my main extension i use is join
https://github.com/joaomgcd/JoinChrome
Join is really powerful push messaging platform that works well ... It is primarily for Android phones and works well as a Chrome extension - also has a windows app now
The Join API is a very useful feature. It allows sending custom commands to Tasker to execute different tasks
I use pushbullet to send stuffs from phone to desktop and it's ok, I guess...will check out join...
@opie @voltronic pushbullet is good also but i don't like the subscription
Join it's a one off payment of £5 for all features for life(or it was £5 when i purchased it back in 2014/15)
with join you can >> EventGhost, Node-RED
If set, will redirect received Commands to the specified port (AutoRemote plugin in EventGhost or Join plugin in Node-RED) - Encrypt Communication
If set, the password will encrypt your pushes before they are sent other devices. you set your own password
@ecksmc @voltronic @opie
I use and appreciate many of the things you all discuss and recommend, thank you. :)
I shoulda mentioned...all that Mullvad Browser stuff is in my laptop...on mobile I just use Brave...
@voltronic didn't know that thanks for the heads up
firefox focus seems to be do well - i use that mostly on my android
i would use brave more but it's a pain on my chromebook when on stable channel having yo use the android app version - when on dev channel i can instal via linux which is better
duckduckgo browser also have to use that via android on ChromeOS and it keeps crashing every few minutes i found
i like chrome anyway with all my extensions and tweaks i have done
@voltronic i did try that on a chromebook in dev mode a while back - think it was you who ,mentioned it btw - i'm currently on chromebook inn stable mode so can't use that unfortunately
but it is a good alternative
Ungoogled Chromium is also good Ungoogled Chromium is considered a privacy friendly alternative also Ungoogled Chromium will not track you or use your personal data - can be used from a USB stick or similar with no prior installation.
