@LAHolloway Have you done the audio test thing? That’s happened to me once or twice, and that has fixed it. Why, I don’t know. But just a suggestion to try.
@mach1group I have, and nothing makes it work. It will work with bluetooth and the speakers built into my computer, but nothing plugged into my audio jacks.
@LAHolloway That’s odd. Does it work with USB? That’s what I use, and probably not helpful if you don’t currently have a headset. (and their support has been spotty in my experience)
@mach1group I don't have any audio devices that plug into USB.
@LAHolloway
This might not be a Zoom problem. You said it works with Bluetooth - do you mean wireless headphones with a mic built in? If so, *that* device is assigned as your microphone in your OS and not the physical mic input. You need to manually select that as your microphone in Zoom settings, but you also might need to check that input is enabled in your OS audio devices settings panel.
You on Windows?
@LAHolloway
Ah, I see. That changes things. Personally I hate Zoom, and in the occasions I need to use it I use the browser version because I don't trust what tracking might be built into the app, and I've found it to be buggy. That doesn't help you, unfortunately.
Has the app previously worked with this mic input?
@LAHolloway
I know what you're going through, having taught through Google Meet about a year and a half.
I want to try and help sort this out, but I have a few questions:
1. Your preferred input appears in Settings > Audio > Microphone? What happens when you test it?
2. If it shows up, any chance when you disable Automatically Adjust Volume?
3. If your mic input does not appear in Settings, have you tried the attached steps?
@voltronic @mach1group I don't have any issues with my microphone, regardless of which one I use.
I have a desktop mic, microphones in both of my webcams, and a microphone in my headset. I've tested them all and they all work. Changing these settings doesn't have any impact on the Zoom app.
@LAHolloway
What does that mean when your say "doesn't have any impact"? Are those mics showing up as input devices in Zoom, or not?
@voltronic @mach1group Yes. They show up. Changing which one I'm using doesn't make the sound work in Zoom.
@voltronic @mach1group I appreciate that you're trying to help. I really do. But this isn't a problem on my end. I have had months to unplug everything and plug it back it, tweak every setting, update every driver, get new devices and see if they work, and it continues to be only the Zoom app and only my audio outputs that use the Realtek driver (audio jack) that aren't working.
This is a problem with Zoom. I do not have the ability to fix it.
@voltronic @mach1group Yes, I have been teaching remotely via Zoom since 2020, and it suddenly stopped working with my audio outputs a few months ago. I kept hoping they'd fix it with an eventual update, but they never did.
It works fine if I use it via the browser, but because of the way the teaching platform is set up, it's a lot of extra clicking every time I start a meeting, which is several times a day. 😫
