If you use Venmo or similar money transferring apps, I encourage you to set your transactions to "private".
I have Venmo just for contributing to collections for gifts and other things for work friends.
Many of my contacts and their contacts seem to use it for lots of things, as you can see from their publicly-posted transactions and posted comments.
You could build up quite a profile on someone from this info. Does everyone really need to know everything you are spending money on?
@voltronic thanks!
@voltronic first thing I did when I opened an account. I was stunned and a bit put off when I could see very one else’s transactions. People I don’t even know and why….
@voltronic hard no for me. What is the use case that, e.g. PayPal (already uncomfortable) doesn't do?
@b4cks4w
Did you know that Venmo is owned by PayPal?
Venmo is mobile-app-only. The advantage over PayPal is it auto populates Venmo accounts from your phone contacts without needing to know an email address.
@voltronic Oh, did not know.
I don't allow apps access to my contacts, so... s'fine, just not for me.
@voltronic I do this (set to private). I have one recurring transaction that I use Venmo for ...cause ... Convenience...other than that, my spending habits don't need to be on a public feed.
Just think of it this way...would you post all your transactions on FB/twtr? No? Ok then.
