Everyone, PLEASE listen to this. You've probably heard about some of these bills/laws, but the full story is far worse than you might think. Stick with it all the way to the discussion of penalties for teachers.

@voltronic That is absolutely insane, but so is that law.
Per Supremacy Clause can't teachers union etc challenge it as freedom of speech (to teach) - not a lawyer but I see it's dangerous to let this go without challenge. ND laws and this new $$ incentive in VA is egregious. This slow steady encroachment needs dialogue & discussion in the context of the constitution not stuck in a must pass budget bill. Arghhhh.
@imaginetruth
I agree that it needs to be challenged. My state teachers' union has issued several calls to action of blitzing state legislators with calls and letters against this type of thing. The most recent ones I've seen were about posting all instructional materials online for parents to review.
👍 best of luck - and so appreciative of the educators 🙏
@voltronic Listened to this and it is kinda scary. It's basically going to drive the good teachers to other places and the lack of education/misinformation will get worse...
I think of my last period class today, where we just finished a 3-class mini unit on Lift Every Voice and Sing. If my state approves any of these measures (and they might) I won't really be able to actually teach the song properly anymore; just the notation on the page without any context.
Things like this are why people are leaving education.
