Pilkington is a former WCC faculty member. His arrangement is less well-known than John Rutter's, but equally beautiful.

^ This carol is the opening processional at Westminster's Reading and Carols service at Princeton Cathedral each year, analagous to Once in Royal David's City for King's Cambridge.

I was there to experience it once, when a former student attended WCC. The cathedral is fully darkened. As the opening solo begins from the loft, a single spotlight illuminates the crossing of the transept, appearing as a giant star. The choir then processes in by candlelight as shown in the photo.

^ As the lights came up and I looked at my program to follow along with the first congregation hymn, my jaw hit the floor when I realized I had just heard the freshmen ensemble sing that arrangement so expertly. (Not the same choir heard on this recording, which is more selective, but none too shabby).
