HELENE - account from Chimney Rock survivor
This is scary af. It reminded me of those who had to run from room to room, throw over a couch, and hide while the house was blown apart around them.
This is worse. As they tried to escape the road and guardrail began to slip away. 😱
It's a long post but read if you can. We have never had a storm drive into mountians. It's catastrophic. We won't know full details or death for months. 🪷
@ucantstop_me
I couldn’t leave our pets behind. Thankfully all survived.
@Tbdev I would take mine too. I can imagine how hard that was.
@ucantstop_me I saw a video from Chimney Rock as a flash flood came through. Scary.
@Graci this has never happened before. Well inland, mountians, forest and the storm matained its strength. We won't know the full extent for months.
@ucantstop_me Definitely. I'm surprised how people even here in the middle of the state are dismissing it as "can't be that bad"
Had to stop reading this as it tears my guts out. I’ve spent a lot of time in Lake Lure, Bat Cave & environs.
Used to rent a cabin several times a year in Bat Cave. The creek must have turned into a rushing monster.
Horrifying.
^^^ and they had cats with them, outside, in the middle of the storm! But all are safe.
