Lucy Smith and Pauline Ranken ascending Salisbury Crags in Edinburgh, Scotland, wearing long, ankle-length skirts, hats, blouses and smart shoes, in 1908.
The rocks of the Crags include columnar basalts and dolerite outcrops as 46-metre (151 ft) cliffs.
The only protection they had was a length of rope tied around each of their waists.
In 1908, the women formed the Scottish Climbing Club -- after being barred from joining he "for-men-only" Scottish Mountaineering Club.

Wow! As a former climber, I can really appreciate this!
I started climbing in '86, and there was a fair mix of women involved by that time. Women I trusted my life to.

@tyghebright It's the hats that get me!
