Ugh.
I'm seeing people on FB share conspiracy-tinged posts about police/Feds not allowing private helicopters to fly in North Carolina. People want to help with the rescue efforts and they're being told they can't fly.
If this is actually happening, it seems sensible that they don't want random people flying helicopters in the area unmonitored. That seems potentially dangerous.
I don't think the Feds are blocking rescue/aid efforts.
Yes.
People are suggesting that the government is blocking aid to predominantly Republican areas.
It's a bullshit narrative and I'm disappointed in people I know falling for it.
@tyghebright If I see it, I'll call folks on it. "Just cuz YOUR asshole did it does not mean folks on the compassionate left would do that. That's why your side of the aisle is wrong"
@tyghebright they just cleared another 12 private hellies. And three more army, It's bullshit. Don't listen to um. That's from a single pilot who ran into trouble, everyone else is working their asses off. What they need is places to land, so spread that. Anywhere there is a place to land a plane, mark it in white with an x
@tyghebright Air traffic control is nothing new. What is new is people blaming a conspiracy for everything in the universe.
there is ONE story of a fire chief getting uppity and threatening to arrest a helicopter pilot doing rescues that is going viral and a temporary NOTAM. But i think the "chain of command" smacked him around a bit
It takes a while to bring 100s together in ad hoc rescue efforts and coordinate them. Nothing worse then sending a helicopter out to a place where you already sent ground units.
@tyghebright Drones have caused rescue chopper crashes and are banned from all disasters now. Frankly, I think drones need more control. And if lil things like drones cause issues, uncoordinated choppers? Oy.
Also, how many people own choppers? That's crazy. LOL
