I unequivocally oppose the death penalty.
This doesn't mean I believe there are no people who deserve to be executed. It means that when you give the state that power, innocent people WILL be killed.
Better to leave the worst offenders alive and in prison than to commit murder with the sanction of the state.
I agree with that.
Also, the executioner is left with the weight that they have killed people, and it can be quite heavy on them. @tyghebright
@tyghebright I agree with every single word of the above. One innocent defendant killed is one too many and not worth the risk.
@grayman @stueytheround @tyghebright Sadly, the problem is the innocent do time because they can’t afford decent legal counsel and the rich skip free because they can. I almost wish that legal fees above a certain amount had to be matched and donated to the public defender. At least then when someone rich and awful gets off, they are paying to defend those who need it most.
@tyghebright I worked in prisons and I couldn't agree more. Our government should not be in the "business" of killing people.
