On FB today, there was an article about the city of Austin putting in 40 license plate recognition cameras.

The responses were full of people ranting about the loss of privacy, saying it's liberals trying to control people, and similar complaints.

But... it was news because Austin is only now installing them. They're already in many other Texas cities. They're on the tollways. AND these people were posting on *Facebook*.

Many of them probably from phones that also track them.

@tyghebright NOAA placed a new weather station along Rt 4 in town a few years ago. there was major right wingnut outrage about it being a license plate recognition camera & "big government" spying on the town... it's illegal in NH to use traffic cameras. outrage is a drug

People were also attributing all kinds of tracking abilities to the cameras, which literally can only take a picture of the license plate.

@tyghebright every road toll booth does that too. are they unaware?
