In the Midwest we called most of it hotdish, which may include but isn't necessarily the same as goulash.

I once made goulash for a restaurant where I worked that was in New Hampshire. Actual goulash. From a recipe I learned when I was in Prague.

The locals had no idea what that thing I made was, but it wasn't what *they* called goulash.
