‘She just wanted to live how she wanted to’: couple mourn their trans daughter
Alice Litman, 20, was facing a five-year wait for a gender identity assessment when she died. Her parents say a complete overhaul of trans care is needed
Oh, my heart. 💙 So many people would still be with us, if only we'd remembered to build a kinder world along the way.
As someone who is white and generally passes as a cis man, I'm relatively privileged. For me, the hardest thing about being part of the trans community is this. It's that every week, there's someone we're talking back from the ledge, taking to the hospital, or finding out they're gone. *Every week*.
Or finding out they've been beaten or killed.
I've not been able to remain active because it's just more than I can bear.
@tyghebright @MLClark @Graci We all have our talents, our abilities, and our tolerances. We also each have our place in the balance.
Not everyone is or can be on the front lines, not everyone can be a medic, etc.
The support you can give, the person you are, the fact that you do, indeed, care, that makes a difference.
We would all be diminished without you. It all matters, every little bit holding back the dark, and advancing hope, matters.
You are enough.
