@fernfren Okay, if you get one of these, I have to say the flower pot was far superior to anything I tried with landscaping, store bought hides, old coffee tins, etc. On one side, I have a flat (haunted) landscaping stone propped over leaves, dry plant trimmings, a few bug pellets, a bit of crushed eggshell and the like for the pill bugs. Moss grows over the stone roof. The entrance to this nest is plugged up with a smaller stone, I can dump pillbugs inside and plug it up. 1/?
@fernfren 3/ Anyway, this is the first cave that she feels secure enough in that she has fully submerged herself in the soil, probably munching on the occasional bug that comes through the hole at the back of the pot, or wanders in through the substrate on the bottom. She is finally comfortable enough to be showing signs of brumation, once she dug in she has not emerged.
@fernfren This gives the pill bugs a place to dry out (no moisture below the roof), enter the substrate through crevices. The retaining wall keeps her from getting to them if they are in the soil on that side. She can't get them if they wander above or on the other side, small stones discourage her from digging there. She can hop up the bridge to dig, but she is a lazy thing and will need to be quite hungry to do so. 2/?
