Watching ... One of the reasons I don't watch a lot of American films is because it's all ... stupid and cliche and unoriginal. They do the same things over and over. Same conflicts, same characters, same motivations etc. Its never a new take on an issue or a different perspective. American writers have the same mindset and they look at the world the same way which is why everything feels exactly the same and they make the same films over and over again. Same exact characters.

Alien Romulus was the same thing. It was a cut and paste of so many of the same things. It's not nostalgia it's simply unoriginality. It's boring and shows that you have absolutely no new ideas to bring to the cinematic table. And that seems crazy to me because there are so many writers out there ... but when you all see the world the exact same way as everyone else you can't begin to be creative. There is no creativity because everyone is in the same state of mind with the same limitations.

The tornado touched down at the rodeo and it's the same scene like the first one at the drive-in ... it's like do they think no one watched the first one but they also know people love the first one because they use a lot of the same dialogue, same beats, same mentions ... So what is the point of making this? For money because people will watch it because they don't care. The people who know this already and complain about this stuff get attacked but the truth is they aren't fooled.

I do love Maura Tierney ... Her presence is so strong with such very little effort. She doesn't have to speak and she is so intense. Brilliant and underappreciated actress. I love her role in this. There's a wonderful and simple power in her acting. Her moment in this is the best thing about this film.

@thewebrecluse yeah, the Aliens series becomes redundant, thanks.

@thewebrecluse I love your posts. They make me reflect. I like books, movies, any kind of story that makes me feel something. Not fear or terror, more from the heat.

@SatuUnelmia I'm often watching media for different reasons than most and I'm looking for different things. 99% of American films are the same and I feel really bored watching them. The most unique ones are usually made by foreign directors who are bringing a different cultural perspective into things ... a different viewpoint that isn't drowning in the centered, tedious, American perspective. Many people like films that make them feel things because they are quite disconnected.

@SatuUnelmia when you're a whole person who is quite regulated emotionally, you may watch media or read books for more artistic or analytical reasons and not just to simply be manipulated by common tricks. When you look beyond manipulation in media and come at things with more of a mental focus, you see through them quickly and find a lot of that kind of media boring and it's just insulting. Twisters is one such film. It has not one shread of originality.

@SatuUnelmia the most wonderful thing about it is the Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos who doesn't get as much credit as he deserves. He's an amazing actor and singer. He should get much more attention.

@thewebrecluse I am screenshotting this and will definitely look more into it later! Thank you!

@thewebrecluse I am disconnected unfortunately. I love to cheer on the underdog, hope the mean girl has a change of heart and most definitely the investigator figure out the situation through creative twists and turns you can only see when rewatching it. I’m a simple viewer, but you make me think I should try something different next pick. <3

@SatuUnelmia in my Media Therapy course I talk about how people watch media for 3 primary reasons displacement, transference, and rehabilitation. It's completely normal but that's why these media companies, writers, showrunners, networks don't have to work hard to create real content, they just need to keep people distracted and indulging in escapism. It works well.

@SatuUnelmia I think you should watch what you enjoy for whatever reason you wish. I just express my views on media from a different place. Do you ❤️

@thewebrecluse I enjoy stepping outside of my comfort zone, not to because I think it will make me uncomfortable but because I am exposed to new things. Some of my all time favorite things including music was because I took a chance at something I wouldn’t normally have picked out for myself. I enjoy experiencing new things.

@SatuUnelmia that is good. Many people don't like to expose themselves, many people aren't willing to explore outside of what they know and what makes them feel comfortable. Keep on doing that as often as you can. You'll discover amazing things about yourself when you seek out new art. It changes you for the better.
